First picture of the new bus being built in Tauranga by Kiwi Bus Builders. They have done the last four mobile libraries in New zealand so are getting pretty good at it. This one is unique in Nz being a VDL sb200 chassis.

Good day Brett

I am an Industrial Design student in South Africa currently doing my
Btech year at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

The reason for contacting you is that I have just started
work on a project aimed at helping the South African Library service.
The libraries over here work on a system of regional and public libraries.
The regional libraries housing the stacks and servicing the public
libraries by doing "tours" with a library bus. The public librarians
then have the opportunity to choose a selection of books from the bus.
The bus is therefore a type of mobile library, though not directed at
the public as such.

The problem is that these buses are not ideal for the South African
situation, mostly because of cost restraints. Which is where my design
will hopefully be of help.

Now, after that lengthy introduction, I am writing you because
I want to get as much input as possible from people who have
experience of what works and what doesn't in terms of mobile
libraries.

As mentioned, the design will not be aimed specifically at public use,
so the design areas pertaining to that is of secondary importance in
this case. I will be more interested in the whatever design features
you have found either good or bad as far as the design and ease of use
for the librarians is concerned.
I will really appreciate your input. If you are uncertain of what it
is that I want, please ask questions.

Yours sincerely

George Hugo
